“Kudus’ Hundred Million Euro Price Tag” Story Is Not What It Seems

At West Ham, we have seen the emergence of a genuine world-class attacker. Arriving for around £37 million from Ajax, Mohammed Kudus was, to many of us, a largely unknown name but a player with a reputation as a serious up-and-coming prospect when West Ham signed him in the summer of 2023.

Unexpected, indeed, almost ‘adventurous’ for a normally cautious’ David Moyes signing: Young, talented and a bit unknown in the motivation department, I am still surprised Kudus passed the ‘Moyes MOT’: More likely in my opinion he was overruled by Tim Steidten.

Suddenly today there are stories bursting all over the media concerning ‘West Ham set Huge Price For Arsenal Target’ or ‘Barcelona Preparing Bid” amidst ‘new’ claims that West Ham have set a one hundred million euro price tag to try and deter potential suitors.

These claims stem from a story in Spanish media outlet fichajes.net who produced an article this morning entitled ‘The Crazy Price at which West Ham could sell Kudus’ and then seems to suggest as new news that:” Several European giants such as BarcelonaLiverpool, and Manchester City have shown interest in acquiring the attacker’s services. Kudus’s market value has significantly increased in recent months, and his knack for making a difference in crucial matches has elevated him to star status in the Premier League. The interested teams are ready to bid strongly, but West Ham is not willing to let him go easily
Faced with this surge of interest, West Ham has decided to take action by setting Mohammed Kudus’s release price at 100 million euros”.

Nowhere is there any ‘news’ of new activity: No bids, comments from West Ham or anyone else. It is public knowledge that in July 2024 the release clause for Kudus’ contract was £85 million: This clause expired and is dormant again until next summer, at which point it is ‘live’ again as we have been saying for months. So, anyone interested will have to cough up the £85 million which is, guess how much? €100 million. Give or take.

Nothing to see here, nothing has changed since July 2024. Has always been a release clause, whereas it was largely kept under wraps last year, it will be very public knowledge and  ‘live’ again next Summer.

We’ve always suggested that Kudus would be leaving next Summer if a crazy bid comes in – check out the ‘life without the superstars’ article from last month. Of course, a lot can change between now and next Summer: His form between now and then will largely dictate the value of any bids which come in.
